Our story
Divas in AI was born from a vision to bridge the gender gap in Artificial Intelligence and technology sectors.
Divas in AI is a diverse network within AI Ghana, dedicated to empowering women passionate about using AI to drive meaningful change in Ghana and beyond. We are committed to nurturing the next generation of impactful AI engineers, machine learning experts, and tech leaders—led by incredible women!
Our community is centered around groundbreaking ideas, hands-on training, interactive workshops, and innovative solutions to tackle real-world challenges in Ghana and across Africa, ultimately shaping the continent’s sustainable future.

Programs and Initiatives

HerDigital Journey
Transform young girls' lives through hands-on AI education. We target students aged 10-17 years from primary to senior high schools, providing them with fundamental computing and AI skills that open doors to future tech opportunities.

Mentorship: Connect, Learn, Grow
Our mentorship program pairs aspiring AI professionals with experienced mentors who provide personalized guidance, industry insights, and practical knowledge. Through project-based learning, participants gain hands-on experience while building their portfolio in AI.

Training Workshops: Hands-on Excellence
Break down complex AI concepts into practical, real-world applications. Our interactive workshops and training sessions provide participants with the skills and confidence needed to excel in the AI industry.

Bi-monthly Webinars: Learn from the Best

Hack for Change Challenge
This is the first of its kind, an annual competition aimed at empowering women from diverse backgrounds to develop innovative solutions to solve real-world challenges. The event creates an inclusive platform for networking, learning, and showcasing AI-driven creativity, fostering collaboration among women passionate about technology and innovation.In celebration of International Women’s Day 2025, we launched Hack for Change aimed at empowering women across Ghana to harness the power of technology, innovation, AI, and entrepreneurship to address real-world challenges. This inclusive hackathon invites women from all backgrounds whether beginners or seasoned tech enthusiasts to collaborate, and innovate in a supportive environment.
Participants will work in teams to develop creative solutions and present them to experienced judges and leaders t to win cash prizes

Yvonne Dumor is a passionate champion for STEM education and a driving force for creating more diverse,
equitable, and inclusive environments. With over five years of experience at Google Research, Ghana, she brings
a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to her work, making a tangible impact on the lives of young
people.
In 2021, Yvonne launched two impactful initiatives within Google Ghana: #IamRemarkable and Mind the Gap.
#IamRemarkable empowers individuals from underrepresented groups to confidently self-promote, while Mind
the Gap encourages the pursuit of STEM education and careers in technology. The program has reached
approximately 1200 students from 23 high schools across Ghana, inspiring the next generation of STEM
leaders. Her ability to connect with and inspire individuals from diverse backgrounds makes her a highly
effective catalyst for change and a true bridge builder.
Beyond her work at Google, Yvonne co-founded Thrive and Shine, an NGO dedicated to empowering young
Africans. Thrive and Shine focuses on increasing access to STEM education, bridging the mentorship gap for
high school graduates and college students transitioning into tech careers, and supporting families affected by
autism. This commitment to community development underscores Yvonne

s dedication to creating
opportunities for others.
Yvonne
'
s professional background also includes experience as an Executive Assistant to the Group Vice
President and CEO of a leading life insurance company in Ghana, demonstrating her strong organizational and
communication skills. She holds a B.A. in Psychology with Geography from the University of Ghana and a
certification in Project Management. She is a wife and a mom of two.

Dr. Justina Adwoa Onumah is a distinguished researcher, policy analyst, and advocate for gender inclusion in Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). With expertise in agricultural economics, enterprise development, and policy research, her work bridges research, policy, and industry to drive systemic change. She specializes in impact evaluations, productivity analysis, and stakeholder engagement, focusing on evidence-based policymaking for sustainable economic development. Dr Onumah is passionate about connecting science to policy through high-level policy and stakeholder engagements.
As a Senior Research Scientist at CSIR-Science and Technology Policy Research Institute and a Senior Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg, Justina has led and contributed to numerous policy engagements, influencing science, technology and innovation policies in Ghana and beyond. She is a 2023 alumna of the Structural Transformation of Agriculture and Rural Space (STARS) programme at Cornell University- a prestigious programme that drives effective evidence-informed policy making through rigorous demand-driven research capacity building. She is also a recipient of the Africa Evidence Leadership Award, recognizing her contribution in the evidence and policy space in Africa.
Beyond research, Dr Onumah is a passionate mentor and the Founder of GirledUp Ghana, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls in underserved communities to pursue leadership and STEM careers. Through mentorship, capacity-building programs, and strategic partnerships, she works to close the gender gap in STEM fields.
Dr. Onumah holds a PhD in Development Studies from the University of Ghana, with international education exchanges from Cornell University, USA, University of Delaware, USA, University of Bonn, Germany, Aalborg University, Denmark and the University of Guelph, Canada.
